How is your approach different from my MD's?

Holistic medicine, what is offered at our Institute, has a different philosophical basis than allopathic or pharmaceutical medicine.  Dr. Haskell does find it necessary to write a prescription at times but it is seldom needed for extensive periods.

Here is a general statement, “Pharmaceutical drugs counteract symptoms.”  You may be wondering how this could be harmful.

The most obvious problem is that all drugs have side effects.  The second, but likely the less obvious problem, is that drugs do not heal.  They simply make the symptom disappear, as long as you continue taking the drug.  We are not talking about acute problems here but referring to chronic ones.

For the most part MDs do not take the time, nor do they have the training, to investigate the reasons or causes of symptoms.  They certainly have the ability to diagnose the problem but their immediate step is to dispense a drug to remove the problem.

So if a person has hypertension then an anti-hypertensive is prescribed.  If the diagnosis is colitis or arthritis, or any condition that ends in ‘–itis,’ meaning inflammation, then an anti-inflammatory is prescribed.  If you have depression then an anti-depressant is prescribed.

This is not hard to grasp.

Holistic medicine’s philosophy is to correct the problem through the use of substances that address the cause.  This can be done through supplying the body with the nutrients it is lacking, by balancing and optimizing the hormones produced by the endocrine system, through cleansing the tissues of irritating toxins, by clearing away bacteria or fungus that can be the source of inflammation, by improving immunological resistance, and by offering advice about correcting a lifestyle that’s contributing to their illness.

Both systems, whether it’s allopathic or holistic, should utilize the same diagnostic tools such as the physical exam and lab testing.  Holistic practitioners often incorporate other less orthodox tools for this investigation.  Some of the tools we use at our institute are dark field microscopy, electro-dermal screening, heart rate variability and the BIA screening for metabolic rater and fat to muscle ratio.

To clarify, there are many MDs practicing holistic medicine and there are many supposedly holistic practitioners who are not using all the tools necessary to properly and ethically diagnose.  Nor are these practitioners trained or equipped to determine and address the full range of causes or etiologies of their patient's illnesses.
